This 160,000 square foot facility will serves as the new training facility for the Chicago Transit Authority. The facility will include over two dozen classrooms for training workers for all roles with the CTA. In addition, a large high bay is provided for hands on training as well as an outdoor space specifically dedicated to training new bus drivers.
The program consists of three elements: The Training Center, where students will learn CTA processes and maintenance techniques in a classroom setting; a High Bay, where students will be given hands on training; and the Control Center. The Control Center is the center of the CTA’s entire communication system and as such is expected be treated as an independent, mission critical facility. While the two other program elements have access from the public right of way, the only entrance into the Control Center is behind a secured access fence that 15’ tall.
In addition to its entrance being located beyond the secured fence, The Control Center will be fully enclosed with a blast proof enclosure. It will be serviced by its own elevators and will be inaccessible from any other portion of the building.
